Child Labor and Harassment Policy

At STELLAR, we want to do business in a legal, ethical way that adds value to society and the environment rather than causing harm. Helping stop child labor is very important to us. We want to ensure that our organization does not participate in the abuse of children and help end it as best we can. This policy applies to our entire organization and anyone with whom we do business or partner, including suppliers, vendors and contractors. The International Labor Organization (ILO) and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child guide our policy on child labour.

When it comes to legal matters, always:

  • If multiple laws apply (eg state and federal, local and international), follow stricter laws.
  • Require suppliers, partners, and vendors to comply with stricter applicable laws and recognize children's rights. They should also ask their suppliers, subcontractors and stakeholders to do the same.
  • In this policy, we refer to “children” as persons under the age of 18.

“Child labor” refers to work that deprives children of their childhood and affects their schooling, potential and dignity. It is work that is harmful to them mentally, physically and socially.

Little children

When it comes to children, we don't want to stand in the way of their health, school or leisure. Therefore, we do not and will not employ anyone under the age of 18, and we require our affiliates to do the same regardless of their country of residence. We are also committed not to do business with any organization that employs children under the age of 18. We will include this condition in every contract we sign, and we reserve the right to break the contract with impunity if our stakeholder violates this condition and refuses to accept it.

To ensure we implement this policy and help eliminate child labor, we are committed to:

  • Working with governments and other organizations to end child labor. We may organize or sponsor actions to educate communities, build schools, or ensure that children are not forced to work to support their families.
  • Educating our staff on youth labor laws and showing them how to report child labor if they see or suspect it.
  • Hiring managers and HR mandate to avoid hiring minors under the legal age for work. We also expect them to be aware of and comply with these policies and laws regarding pay and working hours for older children.
  • Maintaining and verifying documents confirming the age of our employees after being hired. If we become aware that we are hiring someone under the age of 18, we will review applicable laws and adjust working hours accordingly.
  • To communicate our no child labor allowed policy to the organizations we are affiliated with and to ensure that our contracts have the right provisions.
  • Regular inspection of suppliers and business partners (especially in sectors with a high risk of child labor), possibly also with unannounced on-site visits, to ensure they are not involved in child labour. We always ask them to provide us with an updated list of all their business locations. If we discover hidden job sites that employ children, we will terminate our contract immediately.
  • Requesting and monitoring a elimination plan where suppliers discover child labor in their business. We will also work with stakeholders to support children, create plans to support children in their interests, and involve them and their families in the process.
  • Hiring or consulting with experts on issues such as child labour, health and safety standards or corporate social responsibility.

Children's welfare is everyone's business

We want to grow and thrive as a business, but we are also committed to doing good by the community we belong to. Not only because we as an organization demand this policy from all our employees and partners, but because it is everyone's duty to ensure a bright future for children.

We are aware of this:

  • The well-being of the child is paramount, as outlined in the 1989 Child Act.
  • All children, regardless of age, disability, gender, racial heritage, religious belief, sexual orientation or identity, have the right to equal protection from any harm or abuse.
  • Some children are additionally vulnerable because of the influence of their previous experiences, their level of addiction, their communication needs, or other issues.
  • Working in partnership with children, young people, their parents, careers and other organizations is crucial to improving young people's well-being.

We will try to keep children and young people safe by:

  • Valuing them, listening to them and respecting them.
  • Adopting child protection practices through procedures and codes of conduct for staff and volunteers.
  • Develop and implement an effective e-security policy and related procedures.
  • Provide effective management for staff and volunteers through supervision, support and training.
  • Recruiting personnel and volunteers safely, ensuring that all necessary controls are made.
  • Sharing information on child protection and good practice with children, parents, staff and volunteers.
  • Share their concerns with need-to-know agencies and involve parents and children as appropriate.

Modern Slavery Policy

Modern slavery is a crime and a violation of basic human rights. Slavery takes various forms, including servitude, forced and compulsory labor, and human trafficking. What they have in common is the deprivation of one's liberty for the purpose of exploitation by another for personal or commercial gain. We have zero tolerance for modern slavery.

STELLAR is committed to acting ethically and honestly in all its business dealings and dealings, and to implement and maintain effective systems and controls to ensure that modern slavery does not occur anywhere in its business or in any of its supply chains.
